I know little about Hastings (apart from the obvious) and
St. Leonards but having now read David Russell’s book I feel that I know not
only the pubs but also the area very well indeed. 
It is always good news when a member of the Pub History
Society gets himself (or herself) into print and, as an ‘Essex man’ it is
doubly good news when that member, in this case Graham Dover, publishes a book
about public houses on my home patch.
